Methods for taking Notes

What's a database without the ability to make notes? In fact, I'm sure your last call to your cell phone provider, about your pending credit, was captured down for eternity somewhere in a note field.

But really, do you honestly need to create a new note field in every critical table in your database?

This video presents two different techniques for capturing notes. One is a quick-and-dirty method called Auto Notes and the other is a more powerful and highly extendable method called Context Notes.

Whatever your take is on notes, this video will give you some goods that will make things better!

The issue with using the "Submit Note" script can be resolved by using ZippScript to run the script "Submit Note" on field exit. The problem that Brent Lewis resolved was that the script was simply running too fast and did not have an affect on the field. Brent's suggestion was to put a pause at the top of the script. It works, may not be pretty, but it works. Unfortunately, anything under 1 second is not adequate. This causes the data to still be visible for that 1 second, an agonizing amount of time when waiting.

I'm having problem on this. When the table is placed in another linked FM data file.

Would this be the case that the $$NoteLog content cannot pass to the the reference table, when that table is not in the same data file?

Testing this out .. I am having the same issue. Placed locally, it works without issue. However in the Interface file, it cannot seem to pass the $$NoteLog data to the data field. I have been trying to find a work around, but as of yet, have not been able to.

I watched this video over and over again and followed everything. I am using Filemaker 9 and the Auto Enter does not let me type anywhere and submit the note as shown in the video and the seperator lines are added to the bottom of the notes section. Any suggestions on this???
