Touring FileMaker's Inspector Palette

If you’re new to FileMaker, or even an old hat at FileMaker development, then it’s always nice to understand how to use your own tools. In this video, I start the process of walking through the standard Inspector palette.

By taking a bit of time to understand each of the unique areas of the Inspector palette, you may gain a tip or trick in terms of what you can do with this critical part of FileMaker development. Spend a few minutes to watch this video about the first of the four sections of FileMaker’s Inspector palette.

Got this tip from a forum some time ago...

If you want to paste an object to the same position on another layout, you can do as follows:
1) Copy the object
2) Immediately Enter Browse Mode (CMD-B). Do not click anywhere!
3) Enter Layout Mode (CMD-L). Do not click anywhere!
3) Go to the other layout, and paste (CMD-V).

The object has now been pasted with the same coordinates as on the original layout.

Wow. I love it. As much as I think I know about FileMaker development, I still find things to learn. Thanks for the tip! I hope everyone reads it. It's very valuable when trying to create a consistent user interface.

Thanks!

Cool tip. Thanks for that. Dont you know people in high places Matt. I am guessing you ordered paste in place some years ago. What about a convert to layout symbol feature which automatically applies size and position changes to that object in all layouts.?
