Dark Mode Theming in FileMaker

When "dark mode" finally creeps into your operating system, you know it's time you consider the trend and possibly adapt your FileMaker user interface as well. Although, "light mode" is still perfectly acceptable too!

In this video, I walk through some of the tips and tricks I use in order to style a FileMaker user interface into a "dark mode" theme. I cover topics such as where and how to find colors, how to deal with grid settings and how to generally convert a light theme into a dark one.

If you've been considering giving your FileMaker UI a facelift, then I'm sure you'll find some valuable goodies in this video about converting a theme into a "dark mode" compatible one.

If you're worried about the field contents overflowing the field boundaries, simply use the data tab of the inspector to show a vertical scrollbar. This can be set to appear only when scrolling if preferred - although it will always be visible when in WebDirect. The field contents will then always be restricted to the existing boundaries of the object.

Ignorance is curable, not preventable

Thanx for the excellent tips on implementing dark modes. Most of my clients use iPads in forested areas (no internet) to collect data and I have to use dark colours in order for them to see the screens in bright sunlight. I do occasionally have to use some garish colours like yellow (that design people would hate) but at least the users can see the notification or button in the bright light.
