Custom Clickable Calendar Widget

You like being in control don’t you? Being able to control things exactly as you wish? Well, it’s one of the more addicting qualities of creating solutions quickly within FileMaker Pro.

When you’re working with dates, there are times when the native date picker just doesn’t cut it. You can’t make it larger or smaller, you can’t change its colors, and if you’re on iOS then you’re limited to the default iOS date picker. You’ve got no control.

When a user is choosing a date from a calendar, you should probably have a bit more control. This means you need a calendar widget which is under your total control. In this video I showcase a calendar picker I’ve been using for years and years. In this case, however, I’ve updated it to fit the more modern methods of doing things within FileMaker Pro.

If you’ve ever needed full control over a custom calendar widget then look no further than this video!

Sorry. I had uploaded a newer version based on a comment below about a bug. Download is fixed now.

Hi Matt

This is an awesome technique and use of Button Bars!

There does seem to be a minor bug.
I am looking at September 2016 and today is October 2 2016.
The 2 day below the September range is correctly highlighted.
But when I click on the square for October 2 from the September view
the Custom Dialog incorrectly reports that it is September 2nd. Should say October 2nd.

I am sure it is something minor in the calc but I thought you might want to know about it.
I would dive in and try to figure out what is going wrong but I really don't have the time
right now. And it would take me a whole lot longer because you're Matt Petrowsky and
I'm not. :- )

Thanks

James

Thanks for the find James. I've updated the file to 1.1.0. It has the fix for when the date is today and outside the current month being shown.

Good find!

Hi Matt. Could you please check again the videos, none of them can be downloaded. Thanks.

I've logged into the site with a normal subscriber account and downloaded the videos. They are transferred from Vimeo so it may be that you need to refresh the page to update the links.

Thanks, Matt. Did not work yet. I can see the video on-page, but not download it. Tried also Firefox and did not work. I fear that is a MacOS Sierra thing… somethings happen strangely after updating to MacOS Sierra.
Someone's else experience? Thanks.

I've not upgraded myself so I don't know if it is an issue. I do know the links are working fine when I log into a standard subscriber account and I'm not getting too many issues coming in about video downloads. Of course, I don't know how many downloads are happening because I can't get those metrics.

Videos can now be downloaded normally, no matter what resolved the problem, thanks.

Being a newbie to FM, I don't understand where/how the table Calendar is established. The only table in the database list is Technique. But on the Relationships graph, the table Calendar is there showing all the fields. Could you explain this setup? Thanks for all your work on this.

Ernie Storms

Just realized it is just another occurrence of the Techniques table. So now I haven't grasped the concept nor need for a second occurrence of a Table.
