Ultimate Merge Nirvana
Over the course of my many years of working with FileMaker Pro, there have always been troublesome areas. Typically, these involve systems which are critical, yet hard to implement and maintain so they become portable from one solution to the next.
One of these areas is merging field content into text. It used to be that you required a calculated field with many Substitute functions and the systems designed around this method were not very flexible. With the latest releases of FileMaker, which use named variables, named objects and custom functions, this becomes MUCH easier.
In fact, in this video, I'm proud to announce a system that is not only flexible, but easy to implement and universally accessible within any layout. It makes sending email (or printing a form letter) very easy. Beyond the ease of implementation, the custom functions in this template can be leveraged in MANY other areas of your solutions' programming. Terrific technique
This is exactly what I needed for a project. I had a bit of a struggle with it for a while before I figured out that it doesn't like smart quotes (I had cut-and-pasted from a Word doc).
