Window Centering the easy way

After working with FileMaker's window script steps, for any length of time, you quickly start to realize there must be an easier way to center windows. Yeah, you can center the current window right within the New Window script step. But, what about making the centering optional based on either the monitor screen or the parent window.

Now, I'm sure there are thousands of different ways to approach this problem. Some of my fellow developers never want to see the window appear anywhere on the screen other than the intended final destination. Myself, I'm ok with a little resize and on-screen moving.

So, my typical approach is to use a few dedicated custom functions and a "one-stop-shop" script for managing all windowing functions.

You can find the functions I show in this video at my github repository here fmpfunctions on GitHub.com.

If you have your own method for managing windows I'd love to hear about it!

Any update on when the Technique file will be available?

Likewise -- the video's great but would like to see the Technique file.

Hello Matt in lieu of a Technique File to download I tried copying and then recreating the scripts and script steps from screenshots I took of the video but I think I'm missing something or have just an error in the context of one of my script steps because this techniques just isn't working for me,…(yet).

Any chance you'll be posting the Technique File for this video anytime soon?

The technique I have been using I thought I got from you but now I think I picked up Special Edition Using FileMaker 8 by Love Love and Bowers years ago.

I can't think of anything worse that watching a video for a solution you need and paid for and can't implement it because vital pieces of information are witheld from those asking for it.

Matt,

Can you please post the example file to work with?

Thanks
Alan

of people who would love to have the technique file. It would be very helpful, esp. since the custom functions are long to write otherwise.

thank you.

If you haven't already, look at the video for Data Separation Part 25 here: http://www.filemakermagazine.com/videos/the-separation-model-part-25-window-management.html
