Scriptology Video Browser

Update: Saturday, August 18, 2007

You may have seen a few videos about my work on the Scriptology Video Browser. Well, now you have your chance to view this new method of watching videos.

While I ready this file for a new product release (used as the help file for providing supporting videos), I decided to let the public have a whack at it.

All you have to do is download the file!

Magazine iPod Image
Download Scriptology Video Browser

Note! This file is a working just fine. However, it is considered a Beta. Also of note is Safari Beta 3! It will cause this file (and some of your other files using Web Viewers) to crash!.

Again SAFARI VERSION 3 WILL CRASH! (Click the link for the FileMaker.com Knowledge Base Article)

Link broke?

Is this the correct link?

Yes, it should be... - ADMIN POSTED THIS

When I click on the picture or link above my browser starts a download. If this is not working for some people then I need to look into why it's not working.

Also note that Safari Beta 3 will crash FileMaker with the way this file uses web viewers. I don't know why, but I've heard that other files crash too when using web viewers and Safari Beta 3.

Server Error

.
.
.

Safari can’t open the page “http://videos.scriptology.com/downloads/VideoBrowser.zip” because it can’t find the server “videos.scriptology.com”.

Safari 2.0.4

Also occurs with Firefox on Windows XP, so it is not browser or platform specific.

Hmnnnn, interesting - ADMIN POSTED THIS

I thought the domain of videos.scriptology.com had (at least by now) filtered through all the DNS servers on the net. According to OpenDNS and others it has.

If it says the server is not found then I don't know how to resolve. Please email me at editor [at] filemakermagazine.com if you're not able to contact the server.

Not working on IE7 - Vista

.
.
.

http://videos.scriptology.com/downloads/VideoBrowser.zip -> Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

IE7 on Vista.

Right clicking doesn't work either.

Is this a new domain Matt? Possible it's not propagated?

Thanks,
Bob

The link is directly to a file. - ADMIN POSTED THIS

I guess the security in IE Vista might be preventing the direct download because it wants to prompt you for the file. If you're having this problem then use this link here.

http://videos.scriptology.com/?p=update

This will show a page with a link to click. Although I don't know how it's any different than the link on this page. :(

Firefox works on Vista

I installed FF last night, original link works :) Must be an IE7 thing ???

Update: Works in my IE7 now also....Strange

Multiple Video

.
.
.

I started watching the video and clicked around and started another one and they both ran on top of each other and sound was coming from both. I started another one and it ran as well. And I did not find a way to stop the movie once it started. It had mute, play, forward and backward. No stop or exit to be found.

I like the concept very much.

Video Browser

.
.
.

I am trying to use this on an intel IMac, with FM9 Advanced and my browser of choice is Safari.
The Video Browser file opens OK, but when I click on the "Update" button this closes FMA9, but not Safari.
So this appears to be something different to the bugs previously reported.

Date & Time Settings upon opening Video Browser

.
.
.

Matt,
you may not realize it because you always open your video browser in your own time zone, but the openings script does a systems check then asks me (not on a US system Mac) what date format it should use. I don't care which setting is used, as long as I don't get this question every time.

I know this is one of life's tiniest frustrations, but it sort of takes the polish out of your beatiful design and eye for details that has become your standard for ISO.

Thanks, it's an easy fix - ADMIN POSTED THIS

I just need to add a script step in the Startup script.

I'll fix it for the next version.

Working fine with me

Cool video browser! Great work so keep on with the development, Matt.

Video Browser hangs

.
.
.

Dear Matt,
I usually have a few plug-ins enabled in my FM, but I just discovered that if I disable most of them and leave only DoScript on (a set-up I'm using for a solution I'm developing), then FileMaker hangs when I open your Video Browser. It happens just after the file's splash screen goes away (hint: a tiny window is visible on the right, which I guess is supposed to be hidden from users without a second monitor). Maybe your Video Browser is taking for granted that a plug-in it needs is enabled. Can you try and fix that?
